RIP Baby Lennon

He wasn’t supposed to be born yet - nobody is at 24 weeks - but when the womb in which you are safely sleeping ceases to live, there is little choice. Baby Lennon James Picco had a perfect family and a beautiful mom who loved him so. Tragically, Ashley Picco passed unexpectedly in her sleep, resulting in an emergency C-Section. Along with the unviable age, Lennon had gone too long without oxygen. He passed away on November 11 in the arms of his father at Loma Linda University Hospital.

To Chris Picco:

As a mother, it brought me to tears to watch you sing to your son. It took several attempts until I could successfully watch it from start to finish. He was a beautiful baby - perfect actually. Your wife was loved by many and will be deeply missed. Your strength has gained you the admiration of the entire world. Every parent, no matter where they stand, holds you in the highest esteem and cries for the path that lies before you.

I wish I could write something wise and wonderful that would help you better understand your loss, but we both know that nothing I say could possibly be powerful enough. With time, you will seek and find the way for yourself. Just know you have the love and support of many.

You will be in my thoughts and prayers and your son will never be far from my heart. Your wife and son are together now, and one day you will reunite as a family, this I know. I speak for mothers everywhere when I say that you are a fantastic dad. Your wife and son must be so proud. I hope you never forget that.

Amen.

Lennon's lack of movement and brain activity was a constant concern for the doctors and nurses at Loma Linda University Hospital, where he received the absolute best care available.
